Was just going to add this to the *Karmi’s Daily Blog Log* page, but looks like WordPress is going to eliminate Admin functions so thought to do some testing. Besides, I need more practice with LibreOffice Writer! 😉
Manjaro Linux 21.0 may be the fastest at installing of all the ‘Archies’ – especially the Gnome version. I usually add Gnome Shell Extensions then add Dash to Panel for that clean Windows OS look that most Desktop OS users like, but Manjaro has a better option, IMHO. Say hello to Manjaro Hello:
That’s at the DE welcome screen after installation, but it is also listed in the apps section. I was piddling with Manjaro yesterday, before getting the Gnome Shell Extensions, and clicked on that “Gnome Layouts Manager” which led me to:
The default layout is the one on the top left – “Manjaro.” I usually get rid of that Gnome look ‘n add Dash to Panel thru Gnome Shell Extensions, but I found the “Traditional” layout option worked even better:
- WordPress is a mess to work in right now, so I am testing just inserting the pics here in LibreOffice Writer, and then will try to paste everything into their Code editor. (Note: inserting pics didn’t work. UPDATE 3/26: copy is slow in LibreOffice.)
Anyway, great way to add a clean Windows OS layout to Linux ‘n Gnome! Here’s the About section:
Oh, Manjaro automatically installed the Nvidia driver for the GeForce GTX 1660 Super. Wanted to also test the new ‘Apevia’ upgrade/rebuild, so a lot of different testing going on in this post.
I find Distros that don’t offer me Fulltime Linux Root User access are very boring w/ their annoying “Authenticate” popup or other ‘Pesky Passwords’ ‘n so don’t spend much time with them anymore. Let the ‘Password Dependent’ Desktop OS users have the security of their ‘Linux Nanny’ looking out for them, but I’ll take a pass on that.
In the World of Desktop OSes right now, Linux represents just 1.41% of that Market Share, and Ubuntu takes up 1.26% of that:
If my math is correct, that leaves all the other Linux Distros combined at a .15% Market Share, so they are left with DistroWatch.
- OK…let me give this post a shot at WordPress…geez, between WordPress and LibreOffice, this is akin to blogging in quicksand at best! Taking forever to finish this post…plus the internet crawls here in the afternoons…
LINUX IS LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES – you never know what you’re gonna get!
