Some say that 1998 was the first year that the claim “Year of the Linux Desktop” started, but I dunno, other than the Distros I tried in 1996 were beyond bad – they were beyond even a bad joke! I had been using both Windows 95 ‘n OS/2 Warp prior to 1996, so the Linux Distros I checked out then looked like a toddler’s kindergarten crayon scribbling compared to a Michelangelo painting.

Fact is, I had never heard of the “Year of the Linux Desktop” until sometimes after I started this blog (January of 2019). It’s a Linux Faithful thingie where they expect the Linux Desktop OS to take over the Desktop OS User Share – sorta like finding the Holy Grail, but it’s where the Linux Desktop OS User Share jumps from 1.5-3% to over 90% in ‘The Coming Year’.

“Year of the Linux Desktop” faces other challenges also, e.g. still being stuck at 1.5-3% *AFTER* 29 years ‘n having some 2000++ Linux Desktop OSes to choose from – or – still being a Terminal-Centric Distro *AFTER* 29 years!?! “Terminal-Centric” means Linux is still a keyboard-focused OS in the year 2020, i.e. the basic Scroll Wheel Mouse in Linux can only vertical scroll about 1.5 lines per wheel-click ‘n has no settings to change that problem…forget trying to scroll horizontally with a mouse in Linux. Auto-scroll function of a basic mouse is something that the Linux Faithful have never even heard of!?!

Anyway, I’ve been testing Manjaro-Architect 20.0.3 ‘n CentOS Linux 8 and CentOS Stream for about 5-6 days now, with Windowsfx/Linuxfx ‘n FossaPup64 9.5 tossed in along the way in an attempt to update the Karmi’s Top 10 Linux Distros page.

FossaPup64 9.5 was a no-brainer for the #1 spot, but those other 4 have been difficult to choose their order. They’re not for newbies to Linux, or Linux Noobs as the Linux Faithful call newbies…well, correction here since both Windowsfx/Linuxfx ‘n FossaPup64 9.5 are newbie friendly, especially Windowsfx/Linuxfx. The basic Manjaro is also newbie friendly, but waaaaaayy to buggy for me. I imagine that even most Linux old-timers avoid CentOS Linux 8 and CentOS Stream.

Am getting close to a decision on the Manjaro-Architect ‘n CentOS Stream (have moved from CentOS 8 to Stream) ‘n Windowsfx. Windowsfx is like a hybrid with my ‘Pesky Passwords’ aversion, so is headed for spot #5 (or 6??). Of course, my Top 5 need to avoid the Linux ‘Pesky Passwords’, but MX Linux, Kodachi, Ubuntu LTS (the actual best Linux Distro) ‘n Mint are all excellent Linux OSes.

OK…will go ahead ‘n post this!
