Getting ready to do a processor upgrade on the ‘Rose‘ computer … haven’t decided on the processor yet, but the Micro ATX Gigabyte H310M A MoBo gives me lots of options; however, right now the Intel® Core™ i9-9900 ‘n the Intel® Core™ i5-9600K are being mulled over. I have the i9-9900 in ‘Antec Jr.‘ now and it is an excellent processor. Anyway, this is just Part 1 so it is in the very early stages.
As mentioned in an earlier Post, back on March 24, 2019, the Rosewill – Micro ATX Mini Tower Computer Case with Dual Fans – FBM-01 was $19.99 then; however, Newegg lists that Rosewill Micro ATX Mini Tower FBM-01 at $39.99 now ‘n it’ll cost $3.99 to ship. It pays to shop for bargains – then ‘n now in this case! It has the Intel Celeron G4900 in it now.
In the ‘3 Monitors won’t fit on your desk? Too many USB’s get confusing?‘ post I mentioned getting a Drive Medical Non Tilt Top Overbed Table to use as a ‘Monitor Stand‘ and it has worked out great with small form ‘InWin‘ Linux test computer sharing it. However, I want a little more desktop power ‘n more component options (e.g. hot swap bays & DVD player)…the small form is OK, but neither it not the ‘Apevia‘ Ryzen 5 3400G’s Radeon™ RX Vega 11 Graphics Linux test computer have enough components or power for me. I may upgrade Ryzen™ APU/CPU to a bigger CPU in the future, but frankly, I have found that AMD caters more to Windows 10 than to Linux, i.e. never have problems with WIN10, but Linux Distros can act up on AMD Ryzen™ at times. Intel fully supports Linux…simple as that. OK…I am adding ‘Rose‘ to that mobile ‘Monitor Stand‘ … hummm, just remembered an old girlfriend, ‘Mobile Rose‘ from Mobile, Alabama. Anyway, I doubt that ‘Rose‘ computer is going to get a name change, but maaAAYYyBE in the future…
Have already fitted ‘Rose‘ with a special ‘Foot‘:
Decided to go with a ‘Foot’ instead of a full bottom piece on the stand, to cut down on extra weight. That’s 5/8″ plywood bolted to bottom of case, and has a notch cut out on one side (at bottom of pic). If you look at the ‘Monitor Stand’ again:
That notch is going to slide over that vertical arm that helps support the adjustable table, and the ‘Foot‘ is going to rest on that ‘T’ area…then held in place with a ‘C’ clamp. Easily removed if I want to work on the computer, but firmly in place otherwise. Couple more pics:
That notched side goes around the vertical arm and that side of the case rests against that vertical arm…’C’ clamp goes near the notch at the top portion of the ‘T’ area. One more:
I’ll have a pic of it installed in another part…just a pain to take pics ‘n move them ‘ n edit so will skip for today. It is installed tho, and works fine. Now, I have to do some shopping ‘n waiting for bargains, but can use Celeron G4900 for now.
That Drive Medical Non Tilt Top Overbed Table ‘Mobile Monitor ‘n Computer Stand‘ has sure worked out great for me!
Update #1: Easy part of the upgrade, i.e. just ordered EnLabs FP35U32M PC Case 3.5-inch front panel 2 Ports USB 3.0 USB Hub for $12.93. The Rosewill case has two 2.0 USB on front so I needed some 3.0 ports. Free shipping ‘n no tax…
